How can I fix my low back pain on my own?

How can I fix my low back pain on my own?

The truth is, once you have sprained (Joints/ Ligaments) or strained (Muscle/ Tendon) there will be a period of time that you need to let your body rest and heal. However, it is very important to have a trained physician look at the area to properly assess which tissues are responsible for the pain. This helps curtail the management of the pain, which can speed up recovery time. Management will often include seeing a Chiropractor, a Physical Therapist or a Massage Therapist. However, the most important part of your management plan is your Home or Self Care. Both during your recovery as well as preventable Home and Self Care. Your Self Care will require a daily approach. Often times our self care routines we write up for patients will include exercises that offset or counter the type of work you do. For example, if you sit at a computer or in meetings for most of the day. we will need you to periodically stand up and stretch and release your hip flexor muscles that will shorten during y ... read more

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology Taping

You may have seen the Kinesiology tape that many athletes wear while competing. Kerry Walsh Jennings put this type of athletic taping into focus during the Olympics in the early 2000's. Kinesio-Tape, (KT) allows an athlete to receive some stability (strength) help form the tape while continuing to move the joint through its full range of motion. If an athlete has inflamed tendons in the shoulder, KT can assist the actions of muscles leading to less stress on that inflamed tendon. KT can also help reduce swelling (edema) that lives in the joint space or in between muscles, fascia, and other connective tissues. We also use this tape to help our patients with their posture. We tape our patient's shoulder blades so if and most times when they slouch, the tape will pull on their shoulders reminding them to sit upright. Come in for some taping if you have some potential

Muscle Knots, Kinks, Trigger Points, Adhesions AKA Issues in the Tissues! Part 1

Let’s start with the basics of movement. Movement is the lengthening and shortening of muscles which will move and change the angle of the joints they cross. To achieve this shortening affect the muscles have to go through a process of sodium and calcium exchange that leads to the muscle contraction. This exchange is not inherently negative. However, this exchange can leave bi-product that builds up in the muscle tissue. Overuse or excessive use (excessive exchange) of any one muscle or groups of muscles can also leave bi-product within the muscle. This excessive use can range from powerlifting in crossfit to endurance running. But it can also come from looking down at your phone (text-neck)and typing on a computer (tennis elbow). The former is a sexier and more fun way to achieve the poor tissue quality. But both can lead to Muscle Knots, Kinks, Trigger Points, Adhesions AKA Issues in the Tissues! These are all imperfections in the muscle tissue. We use a variety of therapies to ... read more
